What we found

The clip shows mud and rock pouring down a hillside onto a road lined with parked cars and a tall building. It was shared on Facebook and X from 29 September 2026 as a mountain collapsing in Nepal, two days after a real landslide near Lete in Mustang district, where heavy rain brought part of a mountainside down into the Kali Gandaki river. NewsMeter, an Indian fact-checking organisation, found the clip is not that landslide. Reverse image searches found no earlier source, and the clip did not match Reuters' real footage of the event. NewsMeter also pointed to cars that seem to melt as the mud passes through them, a building that floats as the ground disappears beneath it, and bystanders who do not move. It rated the claim false on 1 October 2026. When a real disaster is in the news, compare viral clips with footage from news agencies such as Reuters.

The evidence, strongest first

Supporting Points the same way

None.

Weak Shown, not relied on

How it looksThe mud flows through the parked cars instead of pushing them, so they seem to melt away. The ground under a building disappears while the building stays floating. People standing nearby do not move. A footbridge dissolves into the mud.

Detector scores are often wrong, so they never decide a verdict here.

What we couldn’t establish

Exactly how it was made, and with which prompts, beyond what the sources above say. If you know more, tell us.

Bottom line

Made by AI: a published fact-check traced it.
