What we found

The video shows a man standing up and climbing out of his seat as a roller coaster car reaches the top of a hill. On 14 October 2026 an X account shared it as footage of the man who died at Six Flags Over Georgia two days earlier, saying he got out of his seat. Lead Stories found the clip is from a different ride altogether. ABC 7 Eyewitness News published the same footage on 28 November 2024; it was filmed at Castles N' Coasters in Phoenix, Arizona, where a rider climbed off after his lap bar came loose. Lead Stories matched the opening frames of the X video to the ABC 7 footage. Witnesses to the fatal fall in Georgia told TODAY that the man fell from his seat, and none said he stood up. When a shocking clip appears straight after an accident, search for older copies before believing the caption.

How it looksThe footage is genuine, so there is nothing fake to spot in the picture itself. The giveaway is the story: the ride, the park and the year are all different.
