A tiny deer squares up to a rhino in a snowy zoo enclosure: real or AI?

What we found

The clip shows Maruśka, a female Indian rhinoceros, and a male Chinese muntjac, a small kind of deer, butting heads in a snowy enclosure. Zoo Wrocław in Poland first posted it on its Facebook and Instagram pages on 8 January 2026. The zoo said the little deer was full of mating-season hormones because his partner was in heat, even though the rhino weighs about 1.7 tonnes. On 12 January the zoo named the keeper who filmed it, Kamil Guzik, and said the video had been covered by news outlets in more than 50 countries. When it went round again on X, Threads, Facebook and YouTube in September 2026, some people said it must be AI. Snopes traced it back to the zoo's own posts and rated it true. Strange animal pairings really do happen in zoos, so look for the zoo's own post before deciding.

How it looksThe stone wall, the metal fence and the trees stay the same as the camera follows the animals. The snow is trampled and patchy, as real ground would be. The rhino's skin folds and the deer's thin legs keep their shape all the way through. Nothing melts, stretches or vanishes.

Detector scores are often wrong, so they never decide a verdict here.
